2021 hasn’t been the best reading year for me so far – I feel like barely anything has really stood out – so hopefully this tag will give me the boost I need to reach for amazing books throughout the rest of the year.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2021
Because it was such a warm, soft hug after an absolute hellfire of a year, I have to go with The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2021
That has to be Jade War by Fonda Lee. This series is so fantastic.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
Definitely Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee. I have to wait until December for it, which seems unethical to me but whatever.
The Craftsman by Sharon Bolton. I thought it was going to be such an engaging, creepy thriller and it was crap.
I knew I was going to enjoy it, but I was surprised by just how much I ended up loving Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert.
Favourite new author (debut or new to you)
I think it has to be Fonda Lee – The Green Bone Saga is one of the best series I’ve ever read.
Newest fictional crush
I know a lot of people love Hilo, which is valid, but I have such a soft spot for Lan from Jade City by Fonda Lee.
Newest favourite character
Probably Shae from The Green Bone Saga.
Book that made you cry
I don’t think a single book has made me cry yet this year!
Book that made you happy
I re-read Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend via audiobook and it filled me with such joy.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought or received so far this year
The illustrations in The Lives of Saints by Leigh Bardugo are stunning.
Which books do you need to read by the end of the year?
There are so many 2021 releases I’d like to read this year, and so many other books I’d really like to get to! Off the top of my head, I really want to get to Legendborn by Tracy Deonn, The Wolf and the Woodsman by Ava Reid, The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri, She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan, A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark, A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow, Velvet was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, The Councillor by E. J. Beaton and The King of Crows by Libba Bray.
