Tomorrow I’ll be sharing the books on my spring TBR for Top Ten Tuesday, so it’s once again time to see how I did with my previous seasonal TBR!

The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers
The Conductors by Nicole Glover
Incendiary by Zoraida Córdova
The Black Coast by Mike Brooks
Northern Wrath by Thilde Kold Holdt
Hall of Smoke by H.M. Long
Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse
A Curse of Roses by Diana Pinguicha
Hollowpox by Jessica Townsend
Siiiiigh I was so hopeful I’d be able to read the majority of my winter TBR, but unfortunately I read four in full and DNF’d one. Boo me!
I read and enjoyed both Black Sun and Hollowpox at the end of last year—I need the next books in both of these series immediately, please!—and in January I decided to pick up The Conductors, which I received through NetGalley, because it sounded right up my street. Sadly, it wasn’t. My edition felt like such an early draft that I kept getting distracted by the odd mistake or a turn of phrase that just didn’t feel like it belonged in a finessed, published novel. Unfortunately I also didn’t get along with the magic system at all, and while I loved the premise it’s one of those books that I think would have worked so much better for me without the fantasy element.
Thankfully I enjoyed The Galaxy, and the Ground Within so much more, which was hardly a surprise! Becky Chambers remains my favourite sci-fi author and this was such a lovely, comforting conclusion to the Wayfarers series. A few books after this I picked up A Curse of Roses which was a very quick read but, sadly, only ended up being a 2 star read for me.
I am in a reading slump to end all slumps right now. Annoyingly I’m reading both Incendiary and The Black Coast, and I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read, but I’ve had no motivation whatsoever to pick either of them up. In fact I’ve read the first chapter (and a little more, in some cases) of every single book on my winter TBR and haven’t been able to get into any of them. I’m so frustrated with myself!
I have a couple of buddy reads this week that I’m hoping will kick me back into gear, but for whatever reason I’ve needed a break from reading for the past month or so and I’ve been watching Netflix and writing my own fiction instead. Here’s hoping I’m out of my slump soon, and that I’m much more successful with my spring TBR!
I’m sorry about your reading slump, Jess. I hope your Spring TBR will go better.

Sorry you’re in a slump! I’ve not done any reading this week but I refuse to acknowledge I might be coming down with one too.

I tend to think about these TBR list posts as suggestions, not plans… we have to go with what works for us, and sometimes moods change! I think you did well, and hopefully your slump will be over now that spring is here!

Oh I’m sorry you didn’t love The Conductors. I really loved it.
Becky Chambers delivered once more.
I think 5 out of 10 is great. I got 2 out of 10. haha.

3’s still great! I think we need to go easier on ourselves when we’re in the middle of a global pandemic, which is something I need to keep reminding myself.

You’re right!
I also just think it is fun to see what I thought I would read three months ago, and what I actually read!

Hey, reading 4 and DNFing 1 means you got through half of them, right? That sounds like reasonable progress to me. I’ve also read 4 of my Winter TBR books, and I’m in the middle of a fifth… but I’ve decided that I need to switch away from the audiobook to the paper format. I just can’t handle the main character in this book via audio, even though I’m enjoying the narrator otherwise. I need the option to skim when the MC is being particularly dumb.
Here’s hoping spring helps us end reading slumps!

This is true! Ugh it’s always a shame when a format doesn’t quite work for us.
I certainly hope so! 🙂

It is frustrating, but I’m glad I figured it out before I started hating the book/author/narrator.

You probably did better than me with your winter reading. I don’t remember what was on my winter TBR, and I’m scared to look.

Haha I used to be like that too! I’ve found I’m a lot better at reading some of my seasonal TBRs now that I do these wrap-ups.

I hate reading slumps😬 But usually they get better, so hopefully Spring will be more successful for you. I haven’t even checked yet to see how I did, I’m a little nervous!

I hope so! The weather’s been a bit nicer, which means I can go out for more walks so I imagine audiobooks will be a lifesaver.

I failed a bit at mine as well. I wanted to read like so many books, but I also got hit by a reading slump. Let’s hope that spring will be better in terms of reading
