Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of my favourite shows, so when I realised an Avatar-inspired readathon was taking place in the first half of August, from 1st-14th, I knew I’d have to take part!
Kevs @ KJ Reads Pages has created Avatar: The Last Page Turner Readathon with co-hosts Bin @ Positive Writer, Kae @ Kaela Clifton and Ben @ Ben Reads Books. Each of the four elements – Water, Earth, Fire, and Air – have three reading prompts and an Instagram challenge, and then there are a further three Avatar State reading prompts.
You can find out more information on the readathon’s Twitter page!
I’m already doing the N.E.W.Ts in August, so instead of giving myself a huge TBR I’ve decided I’m just going to do the three reading prompts for Air. I’m an air sign – greetings from your local Libra! – and, while I don’t pay huge attention to astrology personally, I am definitely an air sign. (And I’m definitely a Libra.)
I won’t be doing the Instagram challenge – which is to bookstagram as an air nomad – because I’m very lazy when it comes to Instagram, but also because, as a white woman, I’d feel uncomfortable doing that. This readathon is aiming to promote diverse voices, so I’ll leave that challenge to the much more talented bookstagrammers out there!
Read a book with a white cover
I meant to read Kacen Callender’s Queen of the Conquered in July and haven’t got around to it. It’s on my summer TBR so I’d really like to read it asap!
Read a book with air on the cover
Natasha Ngan’s Girls of Paper and Fire has been on my TBR for far too long, which is ridiculous when it sounds like the kind of story I should love. The cover might initially look more fiery, but it looks to me like her hair is blowing in the wind so I’m counting it!
Read a book with an Asian MC by an Asian author
Fonda Lee’s Jade City is also on my N.E.W.Ts TBR and it’s another one I really want to read this year, so now I have another reason to cross it off my TBR!
