A book that you value the most in your collection
Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is one of my favourite novels and I have a signed copy that I love having on my shelf.
A book that stabbed you in the heart with feels
I’m still not over The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. It’s one of my favourites and it hurt me deeply.
A book that you took a gamble on that paid off
I think that would be Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. I didn’t love Uprooted so I wasn’t sure that another fairy tale imagining from Novik would be for me, but this ended up being one of my all-time favourite novels.
A favourite book with an awesome magic system
I really enjoyed the magic system in Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett—I love that it’s essentially coding in a fantasy world.
A book that seemed intimidating, but you really enjoyed by the end
I was a little intimidated by The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin because parts of it are written in second person, but I ended up loving it and it’s one of my favourite series.
Wylan Van Eck
A book that had a surprising ending
That would be Feed by Mira Grant. I’m still not over it.
A book that you have a fiery passion for
Have I ever mentioned how much I love The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison?
A book that you felt betrayed you
I should have loved Fires of the Faithful by Naomi Kritzer! It’s Italian-inspired f/f fantasy with a focus on religious turmoil, all things I love in a story, and it ended up being a 1 star read for me.
A book with a stunning cover that you didn’t love
The illustration on the cover of Phoenix Unbound by Grace Draven is beautiful, but this book and I did not get along.
A book that you thought about for weeks after finishing it
I still think about A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini a lot, and I read it last summer.
A book character that you wish had more page time
I like Azareen from the Strange the Dreamer duology a lot and I’d’ve liked to have seen even more of her. Her relationship with Eril-Fane got me in the feels more than Lazlo and Sarai’s.
