Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week you compile a list of ten books which coincide with that week’s theme. You can find everything you need to know about joining in here!
This week’s theme is ‘Books With Single-Word Titles (submitted by Kitty from Kitty Marie’s Reading Corner)’.
Skim by Mariko Tamaki and Jillian Tamaki: I loved this graphic novel, and I keep meaning to try more of the Tamakis’ work! I don’t read graphic novels very often, but something I have learned about myself is that I actually prefer contemporary graphic novels to SFF graphic novels.
Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson: I was loving this dark YA contemporary until the last chapter, which lessened the impact and themes of the rest of the book for me. It was still very well written, though, and I’d like to try more of Jackson’s work.
Cress by Marissa Meyer: This is still my favourite book in The Lunar Chronicles. I found it the most exciting, and I loved getting to know Cress properly.
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman: This novel was such a pleasant surprise when I finally read it last year!
Darkwood by Gabby Hutchinson Crouch: I adored this MG fantasy novel, and I can’t wait to read the next book which is due to be released later this year.
Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett: Robert Jackson Bennett became one of my new favourite authors last year and I ended up loving this Italian-inspired fantasy novel. I love Sancia.
Circe by Madeline Miller: Madeline Miller is another favourite author of mine, and Circe was so beautifully written.
Feed by Mira Grant: Yet another favourite author with one of my favourite books of all time. I’m still not over Feed. It made me sob.
Soulless by Gail Carriger: This series is so much fun! I love revisiting this book via the audiobook.
Persuasion by Jane Austen: It’s so funny that I despised this novel, and swore off Jane Austen, when I first read it in school, and now it’s my favourite Austen novel. Pride and Prejudice is fun, but Persuasion is a superior novel in my opinion and I love the 1995 adaptation.
Cress is such a great book. You also have me wanting to re-read Persuasion now. It has been so long since I read it that I can barely remember what it’s about.

The first time I read Persuasion, I thought it was a little boring. (Lots of talking, not always interesting talking.) But I reread it in January and I love the romance story so much that I forgive it for not being as interesting. It’s not my favorite Austen book, but I like it a lot more than I did before.
Also, I love Cress! 🙂
I really need to read Seraphina.

Persuasion is definitely much more of a character-focused story. ❤ I hope you enjoy Seraphina when you pick it up!

YAAS PERSUASION!!! It’s tied for first with Pride but that book has a seriously special place in my heart lol I’m glad to see that you changed your mind about it after hating it the first time 😂 Circe made it onto my list this week as well, and Foundryside is also quite the popular choice this week! I can’t wait to read it (the cover though) 😍 Fab list, Jess!

I loved Allegedly! It was filled with so many twists and turns. Did you figure out the ending in advance? I was a little surprised by it.
Thanks for stopping by my post earlier today.

I didn’t guess the ending in advance, but I was a little disappointed by it? For me it ruined a lot of the points the author had made throughout the rest of the book – particularly in terms of how we assume another person’s guilt or innocence.

I think just reading it from an older person’s perspective! When I first read it I was 17/18 and still learning how to be a good feminist, whereas re-reading it in my 20s helped me to understand Anne a lot more.
