Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week you compile a list of ten books which coincide with that week’s theme. You can find everything you need to know about joining in here!
This week’s theme is ‘Books On My TBR I Predict Will Be 5-Star Reads’! I’ve previously done some genre-specific 5 star predictions for fantasy and science fiction, and I’m planning to do wrap-ups once I’ve read all of the books mentioned there, but this week there’s a mix of genres on my list.
A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes: I saw Haynes speak at the Hay Festival last year and I’ve heard so many good things about this novel, which tells the story of the Trojan War from the points of view of all of the women involved, from the goddesses to the slaves. I want to read more fiction set in Ancient Greece.
Red Seas Under Red Skies by Scott Lynch: I loved The Lies of Locke Lamora and I have a feeling I’m going to love this sequel just as much, if not more. Lynch is a brilliant writer.
Unwind by Neal Shusterman: This YA dystopian novel has been on my TBR for years, so it’s about time I read it. I haven’t read any of Shusterman’s work yet and I’ve heard so many good things. Also, considering how much of a classic this is, why are all the covers hideous?
Nottingham by Nathan Makaryk: I love the sound of this Robin Hood retelling and I’d like to get my hands on a copy asap; something about it makes me feel like it could be a new favourite.
Sisters of the Vast Black by Lina Rather: Nuns in space! Why haven’t I read this novella yet?
Kissing the Witch by Emma Donoghue: I’ve heard so many good things about this short story collection, which puts a queer spin on fairy tales, and I’d like to cross it off my TBR this year.
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett: This is another beast of a novel I really need to cross off my TBR, it’s been on my bookshelf for years, and it’s another one I feel like I could absolutely love.
The Empire of Gold by S.A Chakraborty: I really enjoyed The City of Brass and loved The Kingdom of Copper, so I’m hoping this series finale will blow me away!
The Changeover by Margaret Mahy: I’ve seen so many 5 star reviews of this book that I’m hopeful I’m going to love it, too.
The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell: I’ve heard amazing things about this sci-fi classic. It’s about time I crossed it off my TBR.
I really want to read Sisters of the Vast Black. I’ve read a couple of excellent reviews for it and I just love the idea of nuns in space!

I feel the same way about Pillars of the Earth. It’s been on my shelf for awhile, but it’s hard to commit to the size of it! 😉 I hear great things, though. Happy Reading!

I was just checking for Unwind at the library! I definitely want to read it, especially after finishing the Scythe trilogy. The Sparrow is one of my all-time favorite books, so I’m thrilled to see it on your list! And I really enjoyed Sisters of the Vast Black — hope you do too!

Nottingham has me very intrigued, as I absolutely love fairytale retellings. I don’t have too many Robin Hood ones on my TBR yet so I’ll have to give this one an add 🙂 Happy reading!

I feel like I’ve seen nothing but rave reviews for Unwind (and the whole series) by Shusterman. I’ve never read it either but maybe I should fix that since he’ll be at a local library event next month!

How exciting! That sounds like the perfect reason to give Unwind a try. I hope we both enjoy it!

I haven’t heard of a lot of these titles but I’m hoping that Unwind will be a five star read for me too! I enjoyed Pillars of the Earth but it was not my favourite Ken Follett series… I was a little disappointed in it tbh BUT I hope all of these end up being five stars for you, Jess 🙂 Great list!
