I spotted this on Jean @ Bookish Thoughts‘ channel and thought it was a great idea! I always enjoy using Top Ten Tuesday to give myself seasonable TBRs, but I have a bad habit of putting together a TBR that I then don’t actually read.
When I did my summer TBR this year, though, I made an effort to reach for those books (which was helped by the amount of readathons I took part in during the summer!) so I thought I’d check in to see how many of the books on my TBR I read, and it’s something I’d like to continue to do with my seasonable TBRs!
The books on my Summer TBR:
These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch
Phoenix Unbound by Grace Draven
Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
The City of Brass by S.A Chakraborty
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
So of the ten books on my TBR, I read seven of them! Am I a little disappointed? Yeah I keep meaning to get to Girls of Paper and Fire and The Priory of the Orange Tree because I want to read more f/f fantasy, and These Rebel Waves is one of those books I just have a feeling I’m going to love, but I still haven’t gotten around to them.
I picked These Rebel Waves up a few times, but I was never quite in the mood for it, and Girls of Paper and Fire is a book I’ve been avoiding because I know it deals with sexual assault and I have to be in the right frame of mind before I pick something like that up. The Priory of the Orange Tree I haven’t read yet simply because it’s HUGE – I do a lot of my reading on my commute to and from work, but it’s hard to take an 800+ page-long hardback on the bus!
That said, I think seven is the most I’ve ever read from one of my seasonable TBRs and I’m really proud of myself for sticking to it! It was so satisfying to go through and tick the books off as I read them, and three of them – Gods of Jade and Shadow, The Lies of Locke Lamora and A Thousand Splendid Suns – were 5 star reads!
I have to give a huge shout-out to the readathons I took part in throughout July and August, though; there’s no way I would have read all seven of those books without the Medieval-A-Thon and the N.E.W.Ts Readathon.
I read The City of Brass, The Lies of Locke Lamora, A Thousand Splendid Suns and Gods of Jade and Shadow for the Medieval-A-Thon, and I managed to fit Phoenix Unbound, Salt to the Sea and Last Time I Lied into some of the N.E.W.Ts prompts. I was hoping to read Girls of Paper and Fire and These Rebel Waves for the N.E.W.Ts, too, but it wasn’t meant to be!
7 out of 10 is awesome! Good job 😀

You did great! I don’t think I’ve ever looked back on my TBR posts to see how many books I’ve actually read, now I’m very curious😁

Seven out of ten is awesome!!!! I have no clue how anyone sticks to a TBR because I’m such a mood reader. Congrats on reading so much :))) I do hope you’ll read priory soon though because I loved that book <3333

Thank you! Ugh I want to read Priory SO MUCH. Maybe I’ll have to save it for over Christmas when I can devote the time to picking it up and finishing it.

I think 7/10 is more than I’ve read from any of my seasonal TBRs! I read Salt to the Sea over the summer and loved it.

Thanks! It really can be – especially if you’re distracted by shiny new things like I am.

Seven is a great amount! I read 6 and am reading a 7th which I counted haha. Sometimes mood change so seasonal tbr’s are always hard.

I agree! I’m surprised I managed to read 7 because I’m such a mood reader myself. Sounds like you’ve done great, too!
